"Lighters are more modern compared to matches"
The first lighter was created in 1816 by Johann Wolfgang Döbereiner (1780-1849). From this lighter were resulting hydrogen from the reaction of hydrochloric acid with zinc who auto ignite in the reaction catalyzed by platinum. Matches, whit a phosphor end igniting by itself from friction, have appeared only in 1832. They were taking fire too easily at the slightest friction. Therefore, in 1848, student Rudolf Christian Böttger Döbereiner (1806-1881) created matches that had a less flammable sulfur end as a safety measure to prevent accidents.
