"Sponges are not dead tissue"

Sponges (Spongiae poriferae) are animals. What is utilized as a bath sponge, despite of its soft consistency, is just the skeleton, of these extremely primitive marine creatures. With this skeleton, which on some species of sponges may contain hard silica acid or calcium carbonate, sponges feed on plankton and because of filtering property are very important in purifying the water.
