Tetanus is caused by a bacterium called Clostridium Tetani (tetanus bacillus) which is found in soil, especially in human and animal excrement. When someone gets hurt, for example in a rusty wire, risk that tetanus occurs is just if enters soil into the plague. Outdoors this is certainly very possible. So everybody should get the vaccine against tetanus and to repeat it every 10 years.
