"In Sparta the music was very important"

Music played an important role in Sparta, as the elite Spartan army used to go to war with a whistle. In this sense, the best composers ever created new songs that it was usually the hero's glorious death, for the homeland. But Sparta was not always an obscure military dictatorship, lacking the artistic inclinations. A cultural flowering occurred in the seventh and sixth centuries BC. In addition to literature and fine arts, there were recovery and choral poetry and dance. Fearing a revolt by the enslaved Messenians in the fifth century BC, there was a growing isolation of striking and orientation of all life by the military.
